Logan’s Magical Journey to Mickey

Recently the MCDTC voted to present Logan Meyer a check for $500 donation toward his quest for “Mickey”, a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD).  9 y/o Logan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 years ago.  He currently wears a medical device to monitor his blood sugar levels.  However, these devices are not always reliable, especially when high and low levels can spike or drop quickly.  Complications of type 1 diabetes develop gradually. If blood sugar levels aren’t well-controlled over a prolonged period of time, diabetes complications can eventually be disabling or even life-threatening. Treatment for type 1 diabetes is lifelong and includes blood sugar monitoring at least 4 or more times a day.

DADs are highly trained to detect the change before a monitor can pick up on it.  Diabetic assistance dogs rely heavily on their ability to smell their owner’s blood sugar fluctuations.  These dogs are not meant as a cure, but as an aid to the management of Diabetes.  Logan’s parents researched and found Tattle Tail Scent Dogs based out of Utah.  Raised from birth by a Type 1 Diabetic, these puppies are immediately exposed to differences in blood sugar levels.  Logan’s goal is to raise $10,000 to pay for the puppy, travel expenses, and intensive training in Utah.  After reaching his goal, fundraising will continue to help other children to purchase a DAD.  “Mickey” is expected to arrive sometime this year and will be Logan’s service dog and constant companion.

Please consider joining us in donating to this very worthy cause.  Donations can be made to https://PayPal.me/t1logan or through mail to Logan Meyer, 36 Sandy Lane, McVeytown, PA 17051.  You can keep updated on the progress through facebook at Logan’s Magical Journey to Mickey.

We here at MCTDC have also offered Logan’s family any additional dog obedience training they might need.  If you are interested in various obedience training, contact us through this website or phone our training coordinator, Maureen at 717-250-8575.
